Salome. Original oil painting by Tiago Azevedo

This piece is part of my ongoing Religious series, inspired by sacral art and rooted in the New Testament story of Saint John the Baptist and Salome. In this work, I sought to capture the striking contrast embodied in Salome’s luscious beauty. It is a story many already know, yet it continues to carry a powerful emotional weight that compels me to revisit it through paint.

For this painting, I built the image through translucent glazes of oil paint, applied layer by layer, until the three-dimensional depth and atmosphere I envisioned fully emerged. This balance between control and uncertainty is what continues to challenge and transform my work.
